THE AIM OF THE CONFERENCE:

Each year the Republic of Srpska loses something most valuable in road traffic accidents, the lives of its citizens, and suffers enormous costs caused by road traffic accidents which are estimated at 2.1% GDP of the Republic of Srpska. Experts from the Banja Luka Institute of Economics, with the support of the best foreign experts, calculated that the total annual socio-economic costs of traffic accidents in the Republic of Srpska are around KM 170 million. Therefore, the Republic of Srpska suffers a large-scale “natural disaster” every year in traffic.

This gives us the strength to do more to improve road safety, i.e. to spread this wave of reflections and thoughts that we are presenting at this occasion.

The Republic of Srpska stands out in the region by its institutional capacities to improve road safety. The Republic of Srpska’s Traffic Safety Council convenes regularly, Traffic Safety Agency started working, the National Assembly adopted the Republic of Srpska’s Road Safety Strategy for the period 2013-2022, whereas the Republic of Srpska’s Government adopted the Road Safety Programme for 2014-2018. This way the basic prerequisites have been created for improving the road safety situation in the Republic of Srpska.

The next step in this mission of ours is the strengthening and prompting the capacities at the local community level. For this very reason, the International Conference „Road Safety in Local Communities" is held every year, in order to bring closer the road safety problem to the local communities, as well as to other stakeholders, and create groups of people who will have enough enthusiasm, determination and courage to struggle with this urgent problem of society as a whole.

The Conference aims at drawing attention at road safety and ensuring that the key stakeholders of the system realise their responsibility in creating a road safety protective system of the Republic of Srpska.

COORDINATION OF ALL KEY STAKEHOLDERS OF THE SYSTEM IS THE BASIS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF ROAD SAFETY!
